No Need to Panic

The well known recent mishap has intensely focused global attention. Prophets of doom have long spun apocalyptic scenarios around the possibility, even the likelihood, of such a disaster. And it is no wonder that citizens of every stripe have grown fearful, sometimes to the point of panic, for an event of this type seems mysterious, irrational, and outside the control of the average citizen. It is not surprising that so many feel powerless, worry that more events of this kind will follow, even fear the very end of the world. Yet history tells a different tale.
In our long history, how many of these events have occurred? The answer is, extraordinarily few, and none that have done significant or long-term damage. Scientists have studied the problems involved and implemented rigorous safety measures. The truth is that we are very safe, and one accident in thousands of years is no cause for alarms. Your leaders are wise. Trust them. I urge all my fellow dinosaurs to relax and carry on. Heck, it's only one lousy asteroid strike.
