Insurance

"Ah, I'm glad you could make it, Homer.  I just wanted to talk to you about some changes we at Rypoff Insurance have made to your Insurance policies."
    "Changes?"
"Necessary, changes, Homer.  Necessary.  Let's talk about Car Insurance first."
"Uh, ok, I guess.  You're my agent."
"Do you know how lucky you are to have Car Insurance?  Generations of Americans made tremendous sacrifices so that you could have Car Insurance.  Most places in the world still don't have it."
"I know, Biff, I know.  But what about those changes you were talking about?"
"Well, we've had to make some sacrifices," said Biff. "Just like our forebears did.  Take collision insurance, for example."
    "What about it?" asked Homer.
    "We aren't carrying it anymore."
"Not carrying it?" gasped Homer. "What if I get into an accident?"
"Liability either," said Biff. "Bodily injury or property damage."
"I don't understand," said Homer. "Why?"
"Why, to save Car Insurance, of course!" Biff replied. "Take collision insurance.  Should you choose $50 deductible, $100 deductible, or $200 deductible?  This is too difficult a choice to leave to the consumer.  We can't put this stress producing uncertainty on you.  You need closure!  So, we've made the decision for you."
"And are you making any sacrifices in terms of lower insurance rates?"
"Then there's your house insurance, which we call 'Home Insurance,'" Biff continued. "The flood insurance has to go."
    "Why?" whined Homer.
"Too expensive," said Biff. "It's a sacrifice we have to make to preserve Home Insurance."
"Well, I guess there are hardly any floods around here, anyway," said Homer philosophically.
"Or mold," added Biff. "That's out, too."
"Ah," said Homer. "But fire damage, of course, is still covered."
    "Afraid not," said Biff.
    "Too expensive?" Homer ventured.
"Bingo!  We have to make sacrifices to preserve our Homes," Biff reminded him. "Think about all the people all over the world who don't have Home Insurance."
"Dare I ask about termite damage?" asked Homer.
"Of course, you do!" said Biff heartily. "It's out, too."
    "Theft?"
"Gone.  Uh, that's a particularly sensitive area to us."
"You know," said Homer, "with all these sacrifices to preserve Home Insurance, there doesn't seem to be much insurance left."
"Now, let's talk about your Life Insurance ..."
"Um, not right now, Biff," Homer cut in. "First, I think I'd better talk to my lawyer about a will.  Suddenly, I don't feel so secure."

Whenever someone starts talking about sacrificing freedoms for Freedom, I look in my pocket to see if my wallet is still there.
